10. Corgi Re-Issues 2015 - 2016

In 2015, three years after their last releases, Hornby unveiled a fully featured re-issue of Corgi's original 1965 DB5. Produced in very limited numbers, the special edition gold CC04203G and silver CC04203 models were produced to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary but, just as in 2012, Hornby's supply chain from China failed to deliver against the unprecedented demand.

The majority of collectors were greeted with a 'Sold Out' message on the Corgi site. As retailers were only able to buy a gold model as part of a set including 4 silver, and with Hornby being unable to keep up with demand, some less scrupulous dealers were said to be placing their stock on eBay where they were able to make over £100 on the Hornby price of £19.99!

Those luckily enough to lay their hands on the 1:43 scale models, would find them displayed in a special retro-styled box, and coming with the 1965 features of: working ejector seat, bullet-proof shield, retractable machine guns and the later rotating number plates, but no tyre slashers.

And then, almost too quickly for many to keep up, in 2016 Hornby released another 1:43 scale gold CC04206G and silver CC04206 model  Packaging was a copy of the Goldfinger variant of 2015, simply reprinted for the 50th Anniversary of Thunderball!

Supply was again too limited for demand and Hornby ended up just selling trade packs of six models, five in silver and one in gold. The price tag of £119.99 was just a step too far for even this avid collector!
